The Differences between Seventeenth and Eighteenth Century in British North America

Introduction

The British North America is established through the British establishment of their colonies in North America. The invasion of the British colony determined different events that took place in North America through distinct approaches. The number of colonies under the British control and another element also described the nature of North America. The 17th and 18th centuries in North America were considered as distinct times in the history of British North America depending on the treaties and the policies adopted in treating the people of North America. The changes in the two centuries are evident based on the political, economic, and social factors which influenced the change in the North America regions.

The seventeenth century was associated with the unstable environment and increased rates of diseases in the British North American regions. The regions were related to dramatic wars with the Indians which affected their state of stability. Moreover, there were considered political, religious, and other factors that initiated the wars with India which affected their stable conditions in such manners.  There were also high rates of the dependence of the British North America for support from the mother countries which changed how best their relationships were defined (Conway 149).  There were increased tensions in the colonies based on these factors in the 17th century. However, the 18th century was associated with different factors that influenced the economic and social conditions in the British North America. For example, there were changed and developments that determined the situation in the North of America. The conditions in British North America defined the nature of their environment. Moreover, there were least levels of settlements of the Europeans in the 17th century as compared to the 18th century in which the conditions seemed to be improved in significant ways.

The other changes within the two centuries included the elements of slavery in the region selected. For instance, the growth of slavery was prevalent in the 18th century in the North American regions. The increased slave trade activities were promoted by the existence of many European settlers that covered the North American regions. They introduced the Tobacco plantation that determined the adopted slave trade policies.  The period as from the 1620s established the increased labor intensive activities that influenced the needs for slavery (Conway 150). In the beginning, the policies advocated for the paid labor activities based on the introduced tobacco farms. At these periods, there were groups of people that worked as indentured servants in the determination of the success of the European occupation of the targeted thirteen colonies.

There were drastic changes at the end of 17th century and the transition to the 18th century. According to these elements, almost all the indentured servants were already replaced by the slaves. The primary reasons for such changes included the increased settlements of the Europeans in North America and the intensified tobacco farming activities that determined the ways in which the need for the slave trade activities was evaluated. Moreover, the existence of large quantities of land and available labor in the form of slaves implied that there were promising elements of success in the economic sectors. The other issues that made the change possible included the existence of profitable crops that were significant in ensuring economic development.

The population is another significant change that was present in the 17th and 18th centuries in the British North America.  According to the situation, there are observable trends of population growth across the two centuries. For example, the population in 1625 was estimated at 1980 while the in 1775 the population was estimated at 2, 400, 000 (Conway 149). Based on these periods, it was significant that the population rise was caused by different factors. One of the contributing factors was associated good health that existed in the later century.  According to the situation, the health conditions in North America implied that there were no diseases that minimized the situation of the health of the people in that country. Moreover, there was increased access to food materials that favored the population growth. The great migration was also associated with the increasing growth of population in the region.

Most of the Europeans left Britain to come and establish their settlement in the North. Other situations that necessitated this idea included the fact that there was an increase in the number of slaves that determined the population growth in the 18th century. The economic success through farming and other primary sources of finances affected the ways in which the population growth could be accounted for in the North of America. The other elements that were attached to the growing number of people in British North America included the recorded number of high birth rates and the decreased levels of death rates in the region.

The social inequalities and differences were also some of the fundamental differences that could be determined in British North America in the two difference centuries.  The change in the social factors and the interests of the people was a major issue to consider. The key factors to consider included economic changes which were meant to favor the Europeans in the 17th century. For instance, the mercantile system of economic policies that were adopted by the Europeans implied that there were concentrated trade activities to satisfy the needs of the Europeans in the early 16th century.  The economic policies favored the development of the Europeans that covered the North of America. The colonists used this system to get an appropriate settlement. The merchants who were specifically the Europeans had an advantage as most of the economic policies favored their development. 

However, the 18th century came with a new influence on the economic developments and policies. For instance, the changes in the system implied that there would be a tax levied on the produce within the economy which would also result in the distribution of income throughout the colonies. Furthermore, the 18th century was also associated with increasing openness of the market to other external groups.  The increased road networks also opened ways for change in the economic system in the 18th century.

 The aspects of social equalities were experienced in the later periods in which most of the residents and colonies received better interest in the affairs of the British North American governance. These elements were also associated with the increase legislation measure that determined the extents to which social and equality factors were implied on the local and the European migrants.  The legislation actions in the 17th century were centralized to the control of the Europeans. Such changes of fairness came in the 18th century in which there was accommodating rules and policies aimed at ensuring fairness.

Conclusion

The conditions in the 17th and 18th centuries cannot be the same based on improvement and development factors. In the case of British North America, there were significant changes that marked the transition in the different periods. For instance, the political, demographic, slavery, and economic factors were the significant differences that existed in the two centuries.  Moreover, the 18th centuries were marked by factors that can be categorized as improvements in the states of living and fairness in the British North America. As periods elapsed, better economic policies were developed, and social justices were also developed as part of the state of affairs.  Population increases in the regions were also key factors that determined how these periods were identified.
