Drawing on your own experiences of workplaces, consider the problems caused by ineffective time management. Propose solution to those problems. Time Management Importance of Effective Time Management in Organizations Among the most important skills to possess is management of time, though it is a concept that most organizations and people struggle to implement. Specifically, with bad timekeeping and inefficiency, micro-businesses are not able to afford to waste any time. The importance of better timekeeping practices is, however, many to mention. Organizations that practice good timekeeping are highly placed to deliver all their products promptly. Some of the importance of effective time management include the promotion of teamwork (McIntosh, Luecke& Davis, 2008). Time management in the workforce is not just something you need to consider for yourself if you are in a management or leadership position. This refers to your entire team, and you are responsible for ensuring that all team members can function successfully in the allotted time. Active managers understand what and how many tasks they should assign to their teams effectively to ensure that the whole group runs like a well-oiled machine. Raising employee confidence is another major importance of effective time management. In this context, one of the most valuable advantages of time management is the influence it can have on your trust. You attract positive attention from your colleagues and managers when you deliver work of a higher quality, which can contribute to a more positive sense of your skills and your contribution to the company (Schaerer et al., 2018). All businesses should aim to maintain high levels of trust and positivity among workers, and successful time management is a powerful way to do so. Thirdly is the avoidance of Indecisiveness, which involves streamlining decision-making by practicing good time management to help you prevent paralysis by the study. Plan small blocks of time in the week for specific tasks and set your deadlines for larger projects by which you can complete intermediate tasks while you move towards completing the whole project. It will prevent you from spending time overthinking small problems by pushing yourself to make decisions and move on at a normal, consistent pace. Also, time management helps in planning. To be realistic about what one can accomplish and how quickly one can work through the timetable is a vital part of planning (Schaerer et al., 2018). With the deadline, do not fall into the pit of being too optimistic. While time is money, it should always be a top priority to ensure that you have ample time to produce a high-quality product or service. Effects of Poor Time Management in Organizations When one or more team members suffer from work issues caused by poor time management, this affects relationships and can affect the team's overall functioning. This is particularly true when there are time management problems with a team leader or manager. Some of the detrimental impacts include lack of professionalism, which involves tardiness and missing deadlines induced by bad time management indicate an employee's lack of integrity and will inevitably harm their career (Miner, 2015). They will also act as a motivational brake within the team, especially if the guilty party is their line manager or supervisor. This form of unprofessional act may destroy a firm's image if buyers or business associates are not pleased with the greater picture's unreliable act. The strained work team is another effect of poor time management. When someone is continually unfocused and does not perform quality work on time, they distrust their colleagues. Other team members feel more pressure because they cannot rely on their partner to do what is needed. Until behavior changes, this can lead to a downward spiral of distrust. Poor time management also destroys the meantime; as deadlines are missed and tasks lag, further meetings can be required to keep on top of things and track results. Extra meetings for workers who perform well are stressful, and they take time away from the work that needs to be completed. Lastly is reduced motivation; when others feel that they cannot accomplish anything because of one team member, motivation is reduced (Winstanley, 2005). Therefore, there are satisfaction and completion rates. All of this contributes to lower energy levels. When people have little energy, they often start to get worse. The risk is that the manager will respond by accumulating pressure to perform. However, instead of correcting the problem, it could make it worse. Solutions to Ineffective Time Management Team Work Managers should withdraw the time spent in addressing individual and company priorities with a manager's team. Instead, the manager should consider these to be regular, monthly, and yearly goals that match the organization's objectives. This adds aim and much sense to the work of everyone. It also shows that the manager and the staff are carrying out the right activities at the required time. Reducing distractions at the workplace It is no surprise that an organization's working environment sometimes is filled with distractions. At times, there is nothing bad with distractions. Distractions can help employees ease pain, make them very resilient, and give their minds a much-needed break. Distractions, if not well monitored, may fully destroy productivity (Winstanley, 2005). As a manager, you need to look for the top organizational distractors and clear them away. Creating a culture of flexibility This entails letting your staff carry out jobs within their much-preferred working hours. For instance, the earliest workers may get to work an hour earlier than other employees and leave earlier in the afternoon. Those who cannot wake up early may report later and perform their tasks until evening. One more option is allowing workers to work from their homes' comfort and a few days a week. This cancels the time used on their regular commutes. It also provides managers with an opportunity to do away with all organizational distractions. Employees to fill time management calendar It is simpler to fill a timekeeping calendar. The first thing is to get calendar that all workers are familiar with and easily integrate with your organization's existing applications. The manager should encourage his/her team not to use certain periods of unnecessary work within their calendar (Isaksen,Dorval&Treffinger, 2010). The manager should not forget to remind employees to create time for breaks and jobs such as receiving emails, messages and calls. If the manager is also involved in the project, he must ensure the calendar is used equally by every team member.
